Key 2026 Changes

Standard Deduction & Income Tax: The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) cuts are made permanent. For 2026, the standard deduction is $32,200 for married filing jointly, $16,100 for single, and $24,150 for heads of household.


SALT Deduction: The state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap is increased to $40,000 (through 2029).


No Tax on Tips/Overtime: For individuals with income under $150,000 ($300,000 for couples), up to $25,000 in tips and $12,500 in overtime pay are exempt from income tax.


Senior Deduction: Individuals aged 65+ can claim an additional $6,000 deduction (phasing out at $75k/$150k income).


Child Tax Credit: Increased slightly to $2,200 per child, now permanent.


Business Taxes: 100% bonus depreciation is revived for qualified property put into use after Jan. 19, 2025.


529 Plans: The annual tax-free withdrawal limit for K-12 education increases to $20,000.


Key Expirations (End of 2025)

Many energy-related tax credits, such as the 30% Residential Clean Energy Credit, expire after Dec. 31, 2025.


Electric vehicle (EV) credits expire after Sept. 30, 2025.
